When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid

1 Samuel 17:11

Imagine the feelings of doom and gloom that took over Saul and his army.  Imagine the reason for their fear.  Was Goliath too big?  Was Israel’s army too small? Was Goliath’s defiance too great? Was there no hope left in Israel? Why had the experienced soldiers of Israel “fled from him and were much afraid”?   Was David too young to lead?

One young man stood up where his older more experienced brothers feared to go and ask a question that was repeated until it reached the ears of Saul himself.

“…who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

1 Samuel 17:26

This young man did what was unimaginable to all others. He believed God! He did not follow the fear of others, or the discouragement thrown upon him for his young age.
