010 Pleasure: Legitimate or Illegitimate

To be discerning about what is legitimate when it come to pleasure is essential. Not all things are as they seem and although there may be a good argument for why it is acceptable, in the eye of God it may delay or derail His plan for your life.

We start r828 considering the question of PLEASURE:

Here is how the discussion took place:

Pleasure: Legitimate or Illegitimate

Judges 7:4-7 English Standard Version (ESV)

And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many. Take them down to the water, and I will test them for you there, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ shall go with you, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ shall not go.” So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set by himself. Likewise, everyone who kneels down to drink.” And the number of those who lapped, putting their hands to their mouths, was 300 men, but all the rest of the people knelt down to drink water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.”

Ravi Zacharias shares how to identify legitimate pleasures.

1. Legitimate Pleasure

“Anything that refreshes you without distracting you from, diminishing or destroying your final goal in life is a legitimate pleasure. “

But how do you determine what is legitimate and will not destroy, unless you know what life’s purpose is first?

Example: Living Life Without Purpose

Attempted Suicide

No interest in the things of God. All that I rejected in my life took to suicide at the age of 17. I did not know how to live -or- die properly.

Find out what life is all about, and only then can you define what legitimate and illegitimate pleasure is all about.

 2. Illegitimate Pleasure

“Any pleasure that jeopardizes the sacred right of another person is an illegitimate pleasure. “

Ravi Zacharias shares a regret from his own life due to an illegitimate pleasure.

Live Life to the Fullest

It was once said “Only a fool will not live life to the fullest”

However true this may be,  to truly live life to the fullest you must first discover what the purpose of your life is.  Each person has been created by God with a purpose.   What is your purpose?

What, When and Who

What?  Discussions that open our eyes to understand our world, gain wisdom and understanding of how to speak to others, make life decisions and walk in such a way that we make an impact.   Nothing is off limits.  Come and ask your questions, learn Biblical answers, and live your life with purpose.

When?  Meeting every Last Sunday of the month in the homes of the participants…  6pm    (Each month the location of the meeting will be announced on the r828.org website. )

Who?  For anyone  graduating this summer(2014), 18 years old and above.  You must be single (not married.)

Life without purpose has little meaning.  Therefore to spend ones life without the least regard for purpose is a true waste.

However,  when the spark of faith first ignites we are immediately made aware of purpose and meaning.  Life is purposeful, meaning is to be found in everything we do.   To live is Christ.

r828 is designed to pour in both passion and purpose for living the life that Christ intends for each of us.

Any attempt to live this life without Christ is ultimately vanity… such says Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived.

The Vanity of Self-Indulgence ] I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.

The Vanity of toil (Hard Work)I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,  and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 5:8

The Vanity of Wealth and Honor ]   He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.
All Is Vanity ] The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

To hear and know all to well that life without Christ is only vality is to hear an alarm ringing loud and clear that says seek Christ, find Christ,  live with and for Christ – for outside of Him your will find no purpose and only find vanity.

r828 is designed to pour in both passion and purpose for living life the way that Christ intends for each of us.
